☼ What to do if shorts are your enemy ☼

If you are anything like me, you despise wearing shorts. I am unable to pinpoint my dislike for them, but it definitely exists. Maybe it's due to the fact that I've never had a pair of shorts that fit really well (thank you Spanish curves), or maybe it's the fact that I just love jeans. I am a pretty simple girl, and denim just does it for me.

As the warmer months approach I am forced to come head to head with my mortal enemy-shorts. Stores are about ready to explode with shorts of every kind, high-waisted, short shorts, booty shorts, dolphin shorts, you get the deal. So what am I to do? Well for starters, I am much too proud to suck it up and slip on a pair. So here is my fool proof route to cool legs this summer.

Okay, so I understand this isn't exactly leaving my comfort zone with the whole jeans thing... But the high waisted bottoms paired with a tiny little top is my kind of way to show some skin. I'm thinking this is gonna be my go to look a la Jaclyn Smith. Summer nights will bring many turtleneck crop tanks, sorry I am not sorry boys.

I'm also really feelin skirts. I'm thinking of purchasing a few above the knee numbers. I like the bodycon shape but with a more conservative length, it's a match made in heaven.

I'm going crazy over the whimsical printed skirts from DEVOWEVO a Brooklyn based independent clothing label.
My online cart is getting a little too big...

And last, but certainly not least, Rihanna for River Island is just what I need this summer. Effortless yet chic, and not too trend obsessed.

The attached silk shirt overlays are perfection. They add just the right amount of edge to a fairly simple look. The yellow dress is stunning, I am happy just looking at it.

If all else fails I may be joining the masses and trying out the summer's biggest trend-overalls. I swear they are different then shorts. Maybe...

Blustery Day in Bed

I'm sort of having one those days where you just don't want to leave your bed. Okay, so maybe this is everyday for some of us.... but I'm finding a way to turn a lazy afternoon into something a little more productive.

If you are feelin that funk take it as an opportunity to search for new inspiration. Start it off by logging on to Netflix. Yes. That Netflix. It's time to watch that odd movie you've had sitting in your instant que for months now. For me, that movie was The Ramen girl starring Brittany Murphy. I promise you it wasn't as awful as the movie poster makes it seem. I found it only propelled my dream of visiting Tokyo. I also have to deal with a large craving for some steaming ramen, Japantown here I come!

The movie was a perfect transition in to browsing some Tokyo Fashion Week collections. I was incredibly impressed by the consistency of clean lines from the designers. It's so refreshing to see so many collections that are all so unique. If these Tokyo Fashion Week A/W 2013 Collections  don't provide you with any inspiration the next step should be to check your pulse.

While my dreams of Tokyo are a great driving force it's also important for me to figure out the now. The plans for my next year are currently in the air. This may seem exciting and normal for any college student, but I am a planner and a lack of a schedule equals stress.

The next couple hours of my day were spent fake apartment hunting. If I want to consider moving to Los Angeles in the fall, I need to see how it will mesh with my budget. Doing a little research was extremely helpful and an instant boost for me. I'm taking baby steps here!

Now with my power-packed combo of inspiration and confidence it's time to tackle some internship searching, all from my own bed. Mmm...

Can we just take a minute... order to appreciate the DKNY exclusively for Opening Ceremony collection. A standing ovation is  necessary. I would without a doubt wear every item from this re-release. This collection is bringing back DKNY's best streetwear looks from the 90's. Not only is the lineup on-trend, but it is also looking super comfortable. It's the "I don't care because I know I look good" kind of edge only classic DKNY can supply.

Everything is going fast, so if you want in I suggest you do so now. And please share.

It's moments like this I am so grateful to not own a credit card.

Spring Cleaning

It's that dreaded time of year. Cleaning must be done, and someone must do it. This year I'm tackling the beast better known as my closet. I plan on selling and donating a good portion of what I have. Am I insane? Well, maybe, but allow me to explain myself.

A majority of the things I own I have had since my high school days. I'm not saying that is a bad thing (don't go tearing apart your own wardrobe) but I feel as if it's holding me back. I have changed since high school, so why shouldn't my clothes? I'm not feeling very crisp or fresh when I slide on my almost grey, once black, Car Mar jeans in the morning.

I would also like to take this as an opportunity to create a more mature, wardrobe. I want to start collecting things that I would be able to wear on job interviews, internships, and snazzy dinner dates. A girl can dream, right? This time around my focus will be on quality rather than quantity.

Here's a list of some items I will be saving up for

  • Acne High Waisted Black Denim
  • Deena & Ozzy Bondage Peep-Toe Ankle Boot
  • F-TROUPE Plastic Heart Sandal
  • As If Wildfox Sweater- Clueless Collection
  • Anything from the OC x Chloe Sevingy Fall Collection...
  • A new purse, a very mature looking bag please

Bring on the beach

I'm determined to appreciate going home for a little this summer. I am going to go to the beach whether I want it or not.

At least this TopShop bathing suit will ease the pain...

Life in a beach town in really rough, I swear!

Also, check out the Opening Ceremony x Spring Breakers collection out today. I fell asleep before midnight to go myself, but I'm interested. I even found some of my own little Spring Break goodies.

The only reason I would take such a ridiculous selfie while wearing a Supreme anything is because I'm attached to it. Not to mention I can showcase my profound ability to touch my tongue to my nose.

This beanie has been passed around, it's a good token of home. Very much a memento of high school.

Bingo, I miss ya bud.

I know that I suck.

Dressing to the Nin3

The pressure for young designers is reaching it's highest point. It is impossible for someone to enter this industry without some sort of speculation. I'm not exactly one to talk as a fashion journalist in the making, I admit to being a part of the problem. When you are able to find a new designer unfazed by the judgmental smog of the fashion community, it's inspiring. In the case of the young brand NIN3 by Devon Leigh and Sideara St. Claire, we are blessed with two fearless faces.
This is true girl power any Spice Girls fan could appreciate. The girls have started their collection off with a powerful trio of T's. My favorite thing about the shirts are the endless interpretations they hold. The meaning differs depending on the wearer, pure effortless individuality. A very wise philosophy for such young designers. The duo explain who they are designing for by stating, "A 9 girl is any being who embodies NIN3 by holding the ability to recognize the vast darkness but choose only to proceed towards the endless light". Pretty poetic if I do say so.

Their designs embody independence, confidence, and individuality. So shake what your momma gave you in some NIN3, don't hold anything back!

A new batch is soon to arrive on! Wear your nin3 your own way! Check it out!

Dats me right there, havin a moment with the BFF

Possibly an outfit to copy....
Maybe tomorrow...

It's a big exam day for me so I'll take any form of clothing that could pass for pajamas. My old cut-up BB King shirt always does the trick, it has become a second skin for me over the years. Some car mar jeans about two sizes two big act as sweatpants, and look pretty cool with JC Coltranes. Throw on a furry jacket, and I'm off.

Not to mention this wonderful Free People bralette I'm diggin. It's perfect for those of us who can't exactly go bra-less but can't stand to wear a bra on the daily. Do you follow?
A better full body pic to come soon I promise!

Did someone say coffee?

My roommate and I recently acquired some Dunkin Donuts coconut coffee. Please do not judge. The aroma is pure heaven, I'm sent straight to a Hawaiian paradise. I can almost feel the sand beneath my toes, or possibly just the tingle your body receives after 3 strong cups.
Either way, I'm hooked. I'm back on my productive kick, so be ready to hear lots more from me!

P.S. There may or may not be crack in this stuff. Stay tuned.

Hair Halp

I need someone to tell me how I can turn my poopy colored mess into the locks of Queen Drew.

I hate to be the girl that complains about her hair, I'm pretty lucky to have a thick head of hair. My biggest issue is its color. My hair is a mood ring, no joke. Every day a new shade. Blackish, brown, light brown, auburn, sometimes highlights, sometimes not.... I can't handle it anymore!
There's gotta be a cure. A cure on a budget please.

LV ~Louis Very late

I've been holding back on my thoughts on the Louis Vuitton show. Why you ask? I have no idea, probably the fact that I assume I will do it tomorrow every night. Oops!
Alas, it is never too late to say this show was absolute perfection. A continuation of the pajama slumberland Marc is currently living was brought to the classic brand. Everything about it oozed luxury. Silk, fur, and lace with a dash of Kate Moss. That is a dream come true if you ask me. I found myself practically drooling over the fluffy handbags and floral nightgown dresses. It's girly in a way only Louis Vuitton can get away with.
The second I finished viewing the show I started imagining possible editorials the collection will bring. Oh and the ads! It's going to be breathtaking, let me assure you.
I would be willing to go broke for any of these pieces.

In other news

Anna Wintour continues her world domination, becoming the creative director for Conde Nast.
For what exactly this position will entail we must wait and see, but Anna's influences are sure to be seen throughout the entire company.
I cannot count the amount of times someone outside of the fashion world has asked me when I think Anna will leave Vogue. After an obnoxious chuckle, I like to reply, "after I'm already dead".
This newest position assures those few doubters that Anna is just reaching her top game. So there.

Back with a vengeance

It may seem as if I have fallen of the face of the earth, but let me assure you that I'm still here.
It's been a crazy past week of over thinking. I have been questioning my personal goals a lot lately, and I want to make sure I'm happy doing what I do. While asking myself these questions I was unsure of my answers, and that set off a red flag.
I'm not quite sure where I got the image of college being some exciting place where you are taking all of your dream classes. Now I'm left feeling naive and much alike Buffy during her first semester. All I know is that I'm in a place in my life that is too much like high school. After I graduate I was ready for big change and I don't think moving to San Francisco was enough.
It's extremely important to listen to yourself. I knew I wanted to be gaining real life experience, but the competition of internships scared me away. My current situation has forced me to combat my own doubts and go for what I want.
Either something is finally clicking or I watched way too much Oprah as a child.
I can't wait to see what the world has in store for me next, but spending the weekend at a Zinfandel festival next weekend should help to clear my head. (Maybe the morning beach run and Dolores Park afternoon too. )

Everything happens for a reason.
Embrace your inner Stuart Little and search for that silver lining boy~~

When's Spring Break?

My lovely school has decided to get rid of spring break this year. It's time for me to come to terms with that fact that I will never experience an MTV Spring Break.

I think my over exaggeration problems may be resurfacing. Or quite possibly just a side effect from my lack of sleep....
Either way, I'm longing for some sort of sunny vacation. The rain can only be enjoyable for so long, curse you Southern California!

For an art school student on a budget this means a picnic in my room. Turn on the purple globe lights, and start watching Reality Bites. After a good session of tears with Ethan Hawke, and a wallet-safe spread of goodies it's time to get crafty. Making fake ads out of this month's Vogue, hanging odds and ends on that walls, and fantasizing about the cloudy dreamland in the Dior ads can keep me occupied.
Turn on some Juliette Greco, burn some incense, and enjoy your room.
Ahh, rest. It's a beautiful thing.

Crazy in love

Browsing Celine and Chloe back to back created a peak of excitement for me. These two shows are a perfect example of why Paris is the capital of our fashion nation. No flashiness is necessary. Simplicity is allowed to shine. The beauty of the clothing speaks for itself.
What's that Celine booties?
You want me to own you?
Oh my pleasure!
I'll take the fur if you insist.

Please enjoy some of my favorites looks from these shows, so you too can be insane in the membrane.
Just wait, you'll find yourself talking to the garments in no time!
