☼ What to do if shorts are your enemy ☼

If you are anything like me, you despise wearing shorts. I am unable to pinpoint my dislike for them, but it definitely exists. Maybe it's due to the fact that I've never had a pair of shorts that fit really well (thank you Spanish curves), or maybe it's the fact that I just love jeans. I am a pretty simple girl, and denim just does it for me.

As the warmer months approach I am forced to come head to head with my mortal enemy-shorts. Stores are about ready to explode with shorts of every kind, high-waisted, short shorts, booty shorts, dolphin shorts, you get the deal. So what am I to do? Well for starters, I am much too proud to suck it up and slip on a pair. So here is my fool proof route to cool legs this summer.

Okay, so I understand this isn't exactly leaving my comfort zone with the whole jeans thing... But the high waisted bottoms paired with a tiny little top is my kind of way to show some skin. I'm thinking this is gonna be my go to look a la Jaclyn Smith. Summer nights will bring many turtleneck crop tanks, sorry I am not sorry boys.

I'm also really feelin skirts. I'm thinking of purchasing a few above the knee numbers. I like the bodycon shape but with a more conservative length, it's a match made in heaven.

I'm going crazy over the whimsical printed skirts from DEVOWEVO a Brooklyn based independent clothing label.
My online cart is getting a little too big...

And last, but certainly not least, Rihanna for River Island is just what I need this summer. Effortless yet chic, and not too trend obsessed.

The attached silk shirt overlays are perfection. They add just the right amount of edge to a fairly simple look. The yellow dress is stunning, I am happy just looking at it.

If all else fails I may be joining the masses and trying out the summer's biggest trend-overalls. I swear they are different then shorts. Maybe...

Blustery Day in Bed

I'm sort of having one those days where you just don't want to leave your bed. Okay, so maybe this is everyday for some of us.... but I'm finding a way to turn a lazy afternoon into something a little more productive.

If you are feelin that funk take it as an opportunity to search for new inspiration. Start it off by logging on to Netflix. Yes. That Netflix. It's time to watch that odd movie you've had sitting in your instant que for months now. For me, that movie was The Ramen girl starring Brittany Murphy. I promise you it wasn't as awful as the movie poster makes it seem. I found it only propelled my dream of visiting Tokyo. I also have to deal with a large craving for some steaming ramen, Japantown here I come!

The movie was a perfect transition in to browsing some Tokyo Fashion Week collections. I was incredibly impressed by the consistency of clean lines from the designers. It's so refreshing to see so many collections that are all so unique. If these Tokyo Fashion Week A/W 2013 Collections  don't provide you with any inspiration the next step should be to check your pulse.

While my dreams of Tokyo are a great driving force it's also important for me to figure out the now. The plans for my next year are currently in the air. This may seem exciting and normal for any college student, but I am a planner and a lack of a schedule equals stress.

The next couple hours of my day were spent fake apartment hunting. If I want to consider moving to Los Angeles in the fall, I need to see how it will mesh with my budget. Doing a little research was extremely helpful and an instant boost for me. I'm taking baby steps here!

Now with my power-packed combo of inspiration and confidence it's time to tackle some internship searching, all from my own bed. Mmm...

Can we just take a minute...

...in order to appreciate the DKNY exclusively for Opening Ceremony collection. A standing ovation is  necessary. I would without a doubt wear every item from this re-release. This collection is bringing back DKNY's best streetwear looks from the 90's. Not only is the lineup on-trend, but it is also looking super comfortable. It's the "I don't care because I know I look good" kind of edge only classic DKNY can supply.

Everything is going fast, so if you want in I suggest you do so now. And please share.

It's moments like this I am so grateful to not own a credit card.

Spring Cleaning

It's that dreaded time of year. Cleaning must be done, and someone must do it. This year I'm tackling the beast better known as my closet. I plan on selling and donating a good portion of what I have. Am I insane? Well, maybe, but allow me to explain myself.

A majority of the things I own I have had since my high school days. I'm not saying that is a bad thing (don't go tearing apart your own wardrobe) but I feel as if it's holding me back. I have changed since high school, so why shouldn't my clothes? I'm not feeling very crisp or fresh when I slide on my almost grey, once black, Car Mar jeans in the morning.

I would also like to take this as an opportunity to create a more mature, wardrobe. I want to start collecting things that I would be able to wear on job interviews, internships, and snazzy dinner dates. A girl can dream, right? This time around my focus will be on quality rather than quantity.

Here's a list of some items I will be saving up for

  • Acne High Waisted Black Denim
  • Deena & Ozzy Bondage Peep-Toe Ankle Boot
  • F-TROUPE Plastic Heart Sandal
  • As If Wildfox Sweater- Clueless Collection
  • Anything from the OC x Chloe Sevingy Fall Collection...
  • A new purse, a very mature looking bag please

Bring on the beach

I'm determined to appreciate going home for a little this summer. I am going to go to the beach whether I want it or not.

At least this TopShop bathing suit will ease the pain...

Life in a beach town in really rough, I swear!

Also, check out the Opening Ceremony x Spring Breakers collection out today. I fell asleep before midnight to go myself, but I'm interested. I even found some of my own little Spring Break goodies.

OOOopsTD

The only reason I would take such a ridiculous selfie while wearing a Supreme anything is because I'm attached to it. Not to mention I can showcase my profound ability to touch my tongue to my nose.

This beanie has been passed around, it's a good token of home. Very much a memento of high school.

Bingo, I miss ya bud.

Xoxo
I know that I suck.

Dressing to the Nin3

The pressure for young designers is reaching it's highest point. It is impossible for someone to enter this industry without some sort of speculation. I'm not exactly one to talk as a fashion journalist in the making, I admit to being a part of the problem. When you are able to find a new designer unfazed by the judgmental smog of the fashion community, it's inspiring. In the case of the young brand NIN3 by Devon Leigh and Sideara St. Claire, we are blessed with two fearless faces.

This is true girl power any Spice Girls fan could appreciate. The girls have started their collection off with a powerful trio of T's. My favorite thing about the shirts are the endless interpretations they hold. The meaning differs depending on the wearer, pure effortless individuality. A very wise philosophy for such young designers. The duo explain who they are designing for by stating, "A 9 girl is any being who embodies NIN3 by holding the ability to recognize the vast darkness but choose only to proceed towards the endless light". Pretty poetic if I do say so.

Their designs embody independence, confidence, and individuality. So shake what your momma gave you in some NIN3, don't hold anything back!

A new batch is soon to arrive on www.shopnin3.com! Wear your nin3 your own way! Check it out!
